About

Rita White is an award winning Irish Artist and  Textile Print Designer, who is now based in New York. and Ireland, My background in Nursing, Psychology and Psychotherapy greatly influence my work, adding depth and meaning to my hand drawings.

I also have a first class honours degree in Art & Design.

Although, my work isn’t blatantly Irish but the stories behind my hand drawings are uniquely Irish. They have that story! The landscape, the birds, the ocean and layers of meaning and design that makeup my work are a hybridization of Irishness that have evolved into contemporary Irish design. My ‘Birds on the Wheel’, Migratory Birds tells of how the Brent Geese fly all the way from Canada and Greenland and return to Ireland every winter. Similar to our human stories of Immigration.

‘Birds in the Reeds’ is about the long necked birds that hide in the reeds and the mauve/grey Irish sky in the background.

The ‘Gallop’ is about horse racing but also about the gallop of life that we are all involved in and the layer of flowers symbolise the energy to keep going. It is about the excitement of that gallop, of the pushing forward regardless, knowing that one has to keep going until the end. My choice of colour is also uniquely Irish, some are of the Irish landscape and others are because I love and need colour, as we have to admit that we do have some grey days in Ireland.

My designs are then digitally printed onto luxurious silk and made into exciting silk scarves, ties and pocket squares. Recently, I have hand made some turbans, tops, dresses and even cushion covers.

Any of the designs or drawings can also be rendered on art paper to any scale you desire. Contact me directly with any queries or commissions.
